The hope that the big filmmakers with big-screen movies would not go the OTT way seems like a distant dream now. Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s lavish sports drama Toofan is featuring Farhan Akhtar. He will be seen as a boxer fighting his way to eminence that has gone to the streaming stage.
For certain weeks there was speculation for Mehra’s sports thriller. This is the second venture with Farhan after Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, was going the digital. Rakeysh has confirmed the film will release on Amazon Prime Video on May 21.
Amazon is presently shifting its focus away from its line-up of web serials after the Tandav controversy. Sources reveal that, Amazon is in negotiations to buy several high-budgeted film including Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi and Sajid Nadiadwala Heropanti-2.
Toofan was previously expected to release in September 2020. However with the lockdown in effect, the movie release was resumed indefinitely. It is surprise news that the director Rakesh Mehra and producer have chooses for OTT release rather than a standard theatrical release. Toofan will premiere directly on Amazon Prime Video.

As per the sources the reason behind OTT release is, currently theatres are just opening up and it will be a while before they and their business returns to normal. The movie will not release in uncertain atmosphere like this is harmful to business.
The film Toofan will present Farhan Akhtar playing the role of a boxer. The movie will also feature OTT release Mrunal Thakur and Paresh Rawal.
Further, Toofan is the second sports based movie that Mehra and Akhtar are collaborating on.
